The Maine Community
Foundation has awarded $5,000 to Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Hancock & Washington Counties (BBBSHWC) to support the
expansion of its school-based mentoring programs into
Bucksport. The grant was made from the Rural Grants Fund
of the Foundation.
More than 250 Hancock &
Washington County children are expected to be matched with
Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mentors at area schools this
year. Partnerships with schools, businesses and
organizations have helped to dramatically increase the
number of local children served.
“The community is
incredibly supportive of our program, and we’re grateful
each time we can provide another child with a caring
mentor, says Karen Brown, BBBSHWC director. “We’re honored
to be partnering with the Maine Community Foundation to
expand our program in Bucksport.” The Foundation has
formerly awarded funds to the BBBSHWC program to assist
with its start up and expansion.
If you are interested in
mentoring a child in the Bucksport area, or anywhere in
Hancock or Washington County, please contact Big Brothers
Big Sisters at 800-492-5550 or
