The Advisory Council of
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hancock & Washington Counties
(BBBSHWC) recently selected Patricia Saunders McLellan as
Program Director. Pat has been with the program for over
four years; serving initially as an AmeriCorps Promise
Fellow to help build the program’s capacity and later as
the match management supervisor. She had been serving as
Interim Program Director since January. Along with BBBS
programmatic experience, she brings a 15-year background
in business administration and marketing to the position.
In addition to her work
with BBBSHWC, Pat was most recently also the Client
Services and Education Coordinator for Downeast Sexual
Assault Services. Pat has been active champion for
children’s and victim’s issues for many years. She has
served as a member of the Boards of Directors for two
alternative high school programs, is a long-time member of
the Ellsworth Business and Professional Women’s Club, and
was named BPW/Maine’s 2002 Woman of the Year. She is a
native of Surry.
Big Brothers Big Sisters
of Hancock and Washington Counties is a not for profit
program dedicated to providing mentors to children. The
program matches area children with volunteers who are safe
and positive role models. Big Brothers Big Sisters is a
preventative program aimed at reaching children in need of
additional support and assisting them in becoming more
confident, caring, and responsible. BBBSHWC is
administered by Downeast Health Services in Ellsworth,
Machias, and Calais.
BBBSHWC expects to serve
over 250 area youth in its school-based and
community-based programs this year, yet has nearly 60
children waiting for Bigs. For more information on how you
