Big Brothers Big Sisters event
tonight in Old Town |
OLD TOWN - Residents will
have a chance tonight to learn more about the area's Big
Brothers Big Sisters program during a program at the
library. A game and information night for children,
parents and volunteers from Old Town, Alton and Bradley
who are interested in the Big Brothers Big Sisters
program will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. tonight at the
Old Town Public Library. |

Meet "Big" Frances Greenlaw |
Frances Greenlaw, 91 years
young, has been a Big Sister at Deer Isle/Stonington
Elementary School for the past four years. Before the
program started there, Fran mentored in several island
schools for eleven years. |

August 5 |
Bar Harbor Banking and Trust
Company will present the fourth annual Mount Desert Island
Wine Classic, a wine tasting and auction, to benefit Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Hancock and Washington Counties.

CHILDREN’S COUNCIL presented the 2004 Nancy Gentile award
to Bernice Palumbo at their Annual Meeting held at the
White Birches Restaurant on June 8th. |

Big Brothers Big Sisters
Receives Grant, High School Mentor Recognized |
Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Eastern Maine (BBBSEM) has been awarded a $500 Maine
Mentoring Day Omega Grant from the Maine Mentoring
Partnership. The program received the award “in
recognition of its commitment to improve and expand the
quality and effectiveness of mentoring in Maine,”
according to MMP Executive Director, Nancy Anderson. |

Big Brothers Big Sisters Selected to Participate in
National Mentoring Research Study |
ELLSWORTH AND MACHIAS –
Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA) has announced
that Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Hancock and
Washington Counties (BBBSHWC), a program of Downeast
Health Services, has been selected to participate in a
three-year comprehensive research study to measure the
effectiveness of school-based mentoring.

The Advisory Council of
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hancock & Washington Counties
(BBBSHWC) recently selected Patricia Saunders McLellan as
Program Director. Pat has been with the program for over
four years; serving initially as an AmeriCorps Promise
Fellow to help build the program’s capacity and later as
the match management supervisor.

county brought its bowl-a-thon to the rehabilitation
center in Bar Harbor. Sonogee residents raised about $250

raised more than $16,000, nearly twice as much as last
year's event, according to Director, Karen Brown. |
