School-based ‘Bigs’ and ‘Littles’ from all
over Mt. Desert Island came together at Camp Beech Cliff
to participate in a special adventure day filled
with games, team problem-solving activities and physical
challenges.
The day marked the final meeting of the
Bigs and Littles for the 2001-02 school year, and more
importantly, provided a time of celebration for the new
friendships that have been formed.
This year, 36 students at Conners Emerson
and Pemetic Elementary Schools were matched with Big
Brothers Big Sisters’ mentors. Children and mentors met
each week for an hour at school. The pairs played games,
worked on craft projects or homework, or simply talked.
“We just ask our mentors to share their time and
friendship with children, says Allison Kelley, mentoring
coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters. “It’s easy to
make it fun.”
Funding for the adventure day was provided
by a grant from United Way of Eastern Maine. For more

Sisters at 667-5304 / 800-492-5550 or
